Rabbi Scott B. Roland received his rabbinical ordination in 2013 and has served as the Rabbi of Congregation Shaarey Tikvah in Beachwood, Ohio, since 2016. He holds a Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew College in Newton, Massachusetts, and a B.A. from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. A proud Zionist, he studied in Jerusalem and returns to the State of Israel at every opportunity.
Rabbi Roland strives to be an enthusiastic teacher, fellow learner, and an imperfect exemplar. Passionate and caring, he hopes to help each individual feel seen, appreciated, and respected, fostering a sense of deep connection and responsibility. Rabbi Roland is committed to sustaining community where every soul is valued, yet challenged to evolve and embrace new wisdom. Within sacred community, he desires to create a haven of support, growth, and boundless love for our traditions and for each other.
Outside of Congregation Shaarey Tikvah, Rabbi Roland serves as President of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis. He is also a member of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Board of Trustees, serves on their security and overseas connection committees, and actively participates in meetings of the Rabbi-Evangelical Pastor roundtable. Rabbi Roland is an Ex officio member of the board of the Gross Schechter Day School, where he also serves as education committee co-chair, and as a member of the nominating and rabbinic advisory committees. He participates in the Solon Alliance of Interfaith Leaders, the Mandel JCC Day Camp Committee, and is an active supporter of Camp Ramah in Canada.
Rabbi Roland is married to Aviva, and together they have three daughters, many former Israeli shliḥot they consider part of their family, and two dogs. He enjoys time in the outdoors, reading, and especially loves reading outdoors.

Cantor Gary Paller began his cantorial career with our congregation in 1979. After a hiatus serving a different shul, he was our full-time cantor for more than 20 years. Cantor Gary studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and Jerusalem and majored in music and vocal performance at Cleveland State University. Now that he is Cantor Emeritus, you can often find him performing at senior citizens’ centers and homes, Cantor’s Concerts, and other special events.
Cantor Gary strengthened our understanding that music is an integral part of Jewish worship. When leading a service, he shares his love of Jewish music and encourages the community to participate fully in a unique and inclusive davening experience. Inspired by his example, we continue to be a congregation that loves to sing. Your active participation will be welcomed whenever you join us.
